Educational Production

We have been making award-winning educational programs since 1979, when we started to make programs dedicated to:

"KEEPING CANADIANS IN TOUCH WITH CANADA"

Our educational programs have won top honours at major American film and television festivals.

Our programs can be found in public institutions in every part of Canada and in all fifty US states. All have been broadcast on television including on Sesame Street.

Where Some of Our Films & Videos Are:

Some locations where multiple copies of our programs can be found.

We are grateful to the countless hundreds of audio-visual, film and television professionals across Canada and the US, who have repeatedly told us how eager they are to put our documentary film and video programs before their audiences.

Click   "WOW"

"The Film Committee at the Museum really enjoyed watching all of your films. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is dedicated to educating people about Earth-related issues like environmental change and biodiversity. We feel that your work embodies the scope of our mission and we are delighted to be able to screen your films."

(Jay Apt, Director, Carnegie Museum of Palaeontology, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

At a three day gala, during it's first ever Wild Life Film Festival, the Museum honoured us by "Selecting for Show" for its audiences, more of our programs, than those from any other Canadian or American producer, 15 of whom participated.

Users of our shows enthuse that they like our programs - and consider them unique - because they always project so much "heart," portray people with great warmth, and feature outstanding photography.

And they report their audiences respond enthusiastically to the energetic way our programs are edited, and consistently offer a high quality mix of educational information presented in a spirited and entertaining way.

(Middle): Proud recipients of numerous NEMN Apple Awards, the world's biggest educational film & television festival), San Francisco, California.
(Above): Proud recipients of the Outdoor Writers of North America Four Star (Gold) and Three Star (Silver) Awards, Chicago, IL
(Below): Proud recipients of Gold Plaque, Chicago Film Festival's INTERCOM, Chicago, Illinois.

It is thanks to the enthusiastic support of thousands of film and video purchasers, that today, there are far more copies of our programs in Canadian schools, colleges, libraries, public service organizations, and government and corporate offices, than those of any other Canadian independent producer,

thereby allowing us to pursue our primary passion:

"KEEPING CANADIANS IN TOUCH WITH CANADA"

Outdoor Safety

We made a series of outdoor safety films that have been praised by Outdoor Safety experts for saving countless lives all over North America.

Our film on how to recognize and treat victims of hypothermia, "Cold Water: The Silent Killer" became the North American standard for teaching all audiences about the dangers of cold water hypothermia.

The Canadian Department of National Defence bought rights for the entire series, and contracted us to make them the French versions as well.

These programs are used by:

- Canadian Forces personnel in their Survival Training courses
- the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and other police forces
- public utility, mining, transportation, exploration companies
- government departments
- countless schools, libraries and public service organizations across Canada and the US.

The Canadian Coast Guard informed us that, "There is not a school child in Canada's Maritime Provinces who has not seen your film "Cold Water: The Silent Killer."

The Canadian Coast Guard contracted us to update our film to incorporate new research and safety regulations.

"Cold Water: Deadly Killer" won several international medals including a Gold Plaque at the Chicago International Television Festival.

Due to numerous enquiries from American users who bought our original "Canadian" version, we have created a US version of this award-winning water safety video which now offers American instead of Canadian references, to make it even more useful for American viewers.

"Loose on the Bruce"

The Client: The Bruce Trail Association of Ontario.

The Job: Because so many volunteers work to maintain the Bruce Trail, the BTA had a problem preserving the know-how from one group to another, from one year to another. They approached us because they wanted a video that would preserve the key information: the jobs to be done, the tools that were needed, and safety practices.

The Execution: We designed a half-hour video which featured the chief trail worker, David Moule, speaking directly to the camera, showing the maintenance tools and describing their uses and safe handling. His engaging presentation was broken up by vignettes of other trail workers using the tools on actual construction and maintenance around the Trail.

Epilogue: The BTA President and executive members were bowled over with the quality of the information, the wonderfully descriptive supportive images, and the pacing and editing to make what could have been a boring "how to" video into a gripping and entertaining program. Numerous BTA members praised the video.

"Breaking the Silence"

The Client: CAVEAT, The public service organization founded by the mother of a murdered teenager.

The Job: In the wake of the murders of several young women including Kristen French below left, make a video showing how young people are "breaking the silence" by speaking out against violence against young women.

The Execution: We designed a highly emotional video, shot at a conference of young people and had them speak straight to the camera of personal observations about the problem.

In between we showed all the ways they were participating in getting the word out.

Epilogue: Numerous people remarked on the highly emotional video we made. More than one man watching it reported tears welling up.

It was a Finalist at the Yorkton International Film & Video Festival.

"Young at Heart"

The Client: The St. John Ambulance Society of Canada.

The Job: The St. John Ambulance Society wanted a film to make people aware of the special needs of native elders in northern communities.

The Execution: We designed a warm and entertaining program showing native Inuit and Dene elders involved in a wide variety of interests and pursuits as they entered their Golden Years.

Epilogue: The film was widely praised for having so much "heart" and was bought by numerous librarians across Canada.
