The Client: Government of the Northwest Territories



 








A series of public service announcements, featuring Canada's arctic birds shot by John Goldi csc, to make the public aware of our wildlife treasures.
Fort Malden


The Client: Parks Canada

The Job: A Visitor Center Video in French and English.

The Execution: We designed a program that used archival photographs, live reenactors, parks personnel speaking to camera, in a lively edited format that told the history in an entertaining way.

Epilogue: The Executive Producer for Parks Canada called it "simply the best."

Echoes of Niagara's Past


The Client: Parks Canada

The Job: A Visitor Center Video in French and English, for Fort George, at the mouth of the Niagara River.

The Execution: We designed a program that used archival photographs, live reenactors, parks personnel speaking to camera, in a lively edited format that told the history in an entertaining way.

Epilogue: The Executive Producer for Parks Canada called it "simply the best."

 

 

 
A Route Through the Ages


The Client: Parks Canada

The Job: A film for the Peterborough Visitor Center.

The Execution: We filmed the story of the waterway by taking a trip from Trenton to Port Severn on Georgian Bay. We used archival footage and photographs and intercut them with spectacular footage showing how the waterway looks and operates today. And we added numerous observations from holidayers speaking directly to the camera.

Epilogue: The Government of Canada Executive Producer called it the most beautiful film to come into their Ottawa office in years. It is probably Parks Canada's best selling video, with the Friends of the Trent telling us they have sold thousands of copies out of the Peterborough lift lock museum.

Friends Don't Let Friends...

The Client: The Canadian Government's Department of Justice.

The Job: To create a multi-cultural instructional video that would appeal to native and non-native Northern Canadian audiences and alert them to the dangers of drinking and then operating boats, skidoos, and ATVs.

The Execution: We designed a video intercutting people telling their heart-breaking stories of friends who died due to drinking and driving accidents. We featured accident recreations in between and showed northern people in numerous recreational driving sequences throughout.

Epilogue:  The Justice Canada Executive Director called the film "Excellent! No, better than excellent!"

Award: "Friends" won the Bronze Medal in Ottawa, ON, in a national competition which featured 78 top films made for federal and provincial governments that same year.

The film was widely distributed across Canada and the US.

In the years since, "Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk" has become the rallying motto of anti-drinking and driving campaigns including those of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and MADD (Mothers Against Drinking and Driving.)
Energy in Remote Communities


The Client: The Canadian Department of Energy, Mines, & Resources.

The Job: Make s documentary (in French and English) to show the numerous ways Canadians were involved in pilot projects designed to conserve energy in remote areas of Canada like Dawson, YT left, and Grise Fiord below left, Canada's most northern settlement.

The Execution: We travelled to 12 different remote communities across Canada and prompted people to speak enthusiastically, directly to the camera, to explain their pet projects.

Their voice clips were illustrated with great photography showing the projects in the best light. We documented small and large hydro projects (like the blue wood chip burning plant being explained by Dan House, at Roddickton, NF), wind farm experiments, higher R value insulated houses, and steam for heat reclamation projects.

Epilogue: Great praise for the program so that we were contracted to make a short and a long version.

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 
The Safe Handling of Liquid Oxygen (LOX)


The Client: The Canadian Department of National Defence.

The Job: Make an instructional video (in French and English) showing how to safely transport and store liquid oxygen, used for breathing by hi-flying pilots.

The Execution: We shot detailed sequences showing every aspect of loading LOX into jets and Hercules transports, always shooting from multiple angles so that all labels could be easily read and every turn of the tap or dial clearly seen to the best advantage.

Epilogue: DND was super pleased with the program's gripping editing of the best shots that made it easy for anyone to follow the proper procedure while observing all the safety precautions.





 

 

 

 




 

 

 

 

 

 




 

 

 

 

 

 

 
You Can Make A Difference


The Client: The Canadian Department of National Defence.

The Job: Make an instructional video (in French and English) to make members of the Canadian Forces to be environmentally aware as they carry out their tasks.

The Execution: We shot detailed sequences showing environmentally safe practices are possible in all areas where service personnel carry out their jobs.

Epilogue: DND was super pleased with the program's gripping editing of the best shots that made it easy for anyone to follow the proper technique while observing safety precautions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Government Projects
Cadet Camp Whitehorse

The Client: The Canadian Department of National Defence Cadet Services of Canada.

The Job: Create a promotional film (in French & English) useful for all three services, to generate interest among young people of all ethnic groups from across Canada to consider attending Cadet Camp Whitehorse as summer recreation.

The Execution: We designed a film that featured cadets in the uniforms of all the services taking part in a wide variety of activities. We featured great photography of the Yukon as background.

Epilogue: The Chief of Cadet Services Canada called it "the best film anybody ever made for us."
